Research direction

Start by locating the PyPI dataset ingestion and how package files are currently represented. Investigate which SBOM formats and Linux package files are relevant, then define how provenance should be recorded when SBOM data is present. Done means the dataset captures the source project for applicable compiled files without changing packages that lack SBOM information.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

PyPI packages (most likely Linux ones?) can contain SBOM listing where compiled files came from. This could be useful to include in the PyPI dataset for tying compiled libraries from PyPI wheels to the actual project they are from.
