Research direction
Locate the release notes and review how upgrade-related advice is presented. Add guidance to disable apt-listchanges by setting both frontend entries in /etc/apt/listchanges.conf to none, while recording their previous values for restoration after the upgrade.
Written by the indexing model from the issue text.
Description
I discover from the upgrade log that apt-listchanges very much enlarged that log. The programme will have slowed down the upgrade too. It is possible also that the program is responsible for a Cinnamon crash that I had mid-way through one upgrade. Hence my titular suggestion.
I think that the following will suffice for the disabling.
In /etc/apt/listchanges.conf, set the two 'frontend' entries to none - but make a note of what the previous values were, so that you can restore them after the upgrade.
