Research direction

The payload names no files or tests, so start from the existing record, transcribe, paste pipeline and find where a single transcription currently begins and ends. Issue #169 is listed as a dependency and should be read first. Done would mean a long recording is transcribed in silence-split chunks without cutting words, shows a live transcript, and survives a stop or crash, but the chunking design needs agreement before any code is written.

Description

enhancement priority:P2

Our pipeline is built for short dictations: record, transcribe, paste. A meeting is a different problem.

What's needed:

  • Split the audio on silence and transcribe as it goes, so nothing waits an hour.
  • Keep memory flat, rather than holding an hour of audio and text.
  • Show a live transcript people can read while the meeting runs.
  • Survive a crash without losing what was already transcribed.
  • Let it be stopped, and saved.

Parakeet is fast enough on Apple Silicon (25 to 30 times real time), so keeping up is not the hard part. Chunking without cutting words in half is.

Depends on #169. Speaker labels are #80.
