[User story proposal] Xarray for Remote Sensing

Start by reading the existing posts in src/posts and the related issue 272 to understand the blog format and expectations. Draft a short remote-sensing user story using the proposed outline, then add it as a Markdown post with front matter, or prepare it in a document for maintainers to format. Done means the story is ready for publication with relevant links, references, and optional images or code blocks.

This is a proposal for a remote sensing use case story for Xarray. The story will be published on Xarray's blog (https://xarray.dev/blog).

Why?

Xarray is now used quite broadly in the remote sensing space. There are toolkits that utilize Xarray for specific sensors (like IcePx for IceSAT2) and utilities for doing common remote sensing tasks like reprojection etc. (e.g. rioxarray). However, there seems to be a lot of untapped potential in this space so a few blog posts highlighting how Xarray is used for remote sensing could be beneficial to the research/applications community and the Xarray developers.

What?

We are targeting a short and non-technical post that illustrates how Xarray is (or could be) used in your genomics context. Below is a template outline that you should feel free to modify:

How?

Xarray's blog using Markdown with some front-matter. You can copy one of the existing posts to get started or you can write in a google-doc-like-thing and ask us to do the markdown formatting. If you copy a previous post, use a name like user-story-remote-sensing-icesat2 or whatever makes sense for your application.
