The work is in the MathDescription editor and viewer, where the existing Language Server support and save-time compilation (currently reported only as a popup) are the starting points. Before any change, a maintainer needs to decide the scope: syntax highlighting, an issues panel, inspect-on-hover, or the AI/MATLAB import ideas. Done would mean an agreed design for one of these, not a single edit.

It's a very old design, with some use by more math-oriented modelers.
The biggest challenges are the fact that there's very little "inspect-ability" in the viewer mode.
In the editor mode, while there is basic Language Server support, "compilation" relies on a single pass when saving, and is only stored as a popup.
Having syntax highlighting (especially warning and error underlining), an issues panel, and inspect-on-hover functionality would serve this feature of VCell well.
Ambitious features include potentially using algorithms or AI to be able to take math-models written in other languages (ex: matlab or similar) and convert them into math models, and even back-import into a BioModel.
