Allow deliberately blank alt text in one language, or drop the idea.
The data model treats "" in media_file_translations as "deliberately blank" (e.g. a decorative image in one language) and NULL as "inherit", but MediaDrawer.jsx (~91-96) sends only non-empty fields, so the UI can't set a blank, and saving any other field turns an imported or API-set "" back into NULL (the default-language text reappears). The tests ("clearing restores inheritance") show the UI behaviour is intended; the control was removed in 66ae2e20. Decide: restore a control, or drop the "" meaning from backend/docs so the two agree.
Done when: UI, server and multilingual docs describe and implement the same rule, with a test.
