There are MANY libraries that allow comments and trailing commas over JSON. That's almost all these projects do.
I propose we allow a form of the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robustness_principle and alleviate cases where loose input is acceptable. Note: not all cases will be acceptable due to it not being safe to treat these input as safe to pass through JSON to a different JSON parser. It also means that round trips may be seen as "lossy" and the comments etc. should not be kept.
I do not propose adding the plethora of other options some parsers allow.
A simple set of toggles like { trailingCommas: 'allow', lineComments: 'allow', blockComments: 'allow' } would greatly reduce need on some things that are in the 500 million+ downloads a week for these kinds of packages
