Feature Request: Location-Based Reminders (Geofencing)
Hello,
I would like to ask whether you are considering adding support for location-based reminders (geofencing) to Nextcloud Notes or Nextcloud Carnet (and possibly Nextcloud Tasks on the client side).
Google is removing this feature from Google Keep, and many users — myself included — relied heavily on “remind me when I arrive at this place” or “remind me when I leave this place.” There is currently no comparable open-source alternative providing this functionality in a privacy-respecting way.
Nextcloud would be the perfect ecosystem for this.
Why this feature matters
Geofencing reminders are extremely useful in everyday life (e.g., remind me when I arrive at the store, leave work, get home, etc.).
Many proprietary apps support this, but no major FOSS note-taking or task app does.
Nextcloud already has excellent foundations: Notes, Tasks (CalDAV), and mobile apps — adding geofencing would fill a huge gap in the OSS ecosystem.
This feature would make Nextcloud an even more compelling alternative for users migrating away from Google services.
What the feature could look like
Ability to attach a location trigger to a note or task:
“Notify me when I arrive at this location”
“Notify me when I leave this location”
Mobile apps (Android / iOS) would implement geofencing using the native APIs.
No need for extreme GPS accuracy — standard OS-level geofencing APIs are enough.
Optional radius configuration (e.g., 100–300 m) for stable geofence detection.
Why Nextcloud is the right place
Users migrating from Google services expect this feature.
Nextcloud values privacy — geofencing handled on the device would fit perfectly.
No existing FOSS note/task system offers this today.
It would dramatically improve the usefulness of Notes / Tasks on mobile.

I love open-source software and would be thrilled to see Nextcloud become the first serious FOSS alternative offering this type of reminder functionality.
