Describe the bug: If the installation of the mint-meta-codecs package fails in the background (for example, due to a failing apt-get update caused by a broken third-party PPA/repository returning a 404 error), the GUI installation process aborts silently or doesn't provide clear feedback to the user.
Because mintreport relies solely on the presence of /usr/share/applications/mint-meta-codecs.desktop to trigger the "Install multimedia codecs" report (in 050_install-media-codecs/MintReportInfo.py), the file remains on the system. As a result, the user is continuously prompted to install the codecs on every reboot. Clicking the "Install the Multimedia Codecs" button does nothing to resolve the underlying apt error, creating a frustrating infinite loop.
Expected behavior:
mintreport should catch and display errors if the self.install_packages() callback fails, informing the user why the codecs couldn't be installed (e.g., "Installation failed due to a repository error. Please check your software sources").
Alternatively, if the installation fails, it should suggest opening the terminal to run sudo apt-get install mint-meta-codecs so the user can actually see the apt output and debug the issue, instead of failing silently.
Steps to reproduce:
Add a broken PPA or repository to the system (so that apt update returns a 404 error).
Ensure /usr/share/applications/mint-meta-codecs.desktop is present on the system.
Open System Reports (mintreport).
Click "Install the Multimedia Codecs".
Notice that the installation fails silently in the background and the notification disappears.
Reboot or restart mintreport. The prompt appears again, trapping the user in a loop.
