Current behavior

Current Behavior of Each Issue

Here's what's currently happening with each issue:

Issue 1: Invalid HTML - Self-Closing Image Tags

Current Behavior: Images use closing tags </img> which is invalid HTML syntax

<img class="icon" src="./images/code1.gif"></img>  ❌ WRONG

Impact: HTML validation fails, may cause parsing issues in some browsers

Issue 2: Empty and Missing Alt Attributes on Images

Current Behavior:

  • Testimonial images have empty alt strings: alt=""
  • Service icons have NO alt attribute at all
  • Logo has generic text: alt="Homepage"

Impact: Screen readers announce "image" with no description, violating WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards

Issue 3: Nested Headings Inside Links

Current Behavior: Heading tags are wrapped inside anchor tags

<a href="...">
    <h4>Text here</h4>  ❌ Invalid nesting
</a>

Impact: Invalid HTML structure, confuses screen readers and SEO

Issue 4: Invalid HTML Attribute Format

Current Behavior: Data attribute value not quoted

data-position-y=center  ❌ Missing quotes

Impact: HTML validation error, may not work reliably in all browsers

Issue 5: Empty Form Actions

Current Behavior: Forms have empty action="" with no endpoint specified

<form ... action="" method="post">  ❌ No action defined

Impact: Newsletter forms cannot submit; data is lost or submitted to same page

Issue 6: Inconsistent HTML Attribute Quoting

Current Behavior: Mix of single and double quotes

id='about'          ❌ Single quotes
href="#home"        ✓ Double quotes

Impact: Code inconsistency and harder maintenance

Issue 7: Console Statements Left in Production Code

Current Behavior: Debug statements active in production JavaScript

console.log("mailchimp ajax submit error: "+text)
console.warn("Nothing selected...")
console.error("%o has no name assigned", this)

Impact:

  • Browser console cluttered with debug messages
  • Potential information disclosure
  • Minor performance impact

Issue 8: Missing CSRF Protection and Security Meta Tags

Current Behavior:

  • Forms have NO CSRF token protection
  • Missing security meta tags like X-UA-Compatible, theme-color
  • Forms send POST requests unprotected

Impact: Vulnerable to Cross-Site Request Forgery attacks on newsletter/email forms

Issue 9: Outdated jQuery Version

Current Behavior: Using jQuery 3.2.1 (released June 2017)

<script src="js/jquery-3.2.1.min.js"></script>

Impact:

  • Known security vulnerabilities unfixed
  • Missing bug fixes and performance improvements from 3.3+, 3.4+, 3.5+, 3.6+, 3.7+ versions

Issue 10: Outdated Inline Event Handlers

Current Behavior: Using inline event attributes in HTML

<input ... onfocus="this.placeholder = ''" onblur="this.placeholder = 'Enter email'">

Impact:

  • Mixes HTML with JavaScript (poor separation of concerns)
  • Harder to maintain and debug
  • Outdated practice (pre-2010s approach)

Summary: Current State

Severity Count Issues Status
Critical 3 #2, #5, #8 ❌ Breaking functionality, security, accessibility
High 3 #1, #4, #7 ❌ HTML validation & code quality failures
Medium 4 #3, #6, #9, #10 ⚠️ Best practices & dependencies

Overall Assessment: The website currently has multiple HTML validation errors, accessibility violations, and security vulnerabilities that should be addressed immediately.

Priority Action Items

  1. IMMEDIATE (Critical):

    • ✋ Stop: Forms not submitting properly

  2. URGENT (High):

    • Fix HTML validation errors
    • Remove console debug statements
    • Update jQuery
  3. SOON (Medium):

    • Refactor nested headings
    • Standardize quote usage
    • Replace inline event handlers
Steps to reproduce
