This is a set of open design questions, not a change to make yet. Read the linked #432 and #433 to see why conversion was turned off, and note that bundled_units must stay off unless the user asks. The payload names three places a setting could live: config/, the web Preferences page, and CLI flags. Done means the maintainers have chosen answers for conversion, unit naming and shopping-list behaviour, then the work can be split into smaller issues.

Follow-up to #432. Since #433 CookCLI no longer converts quantities: they are shown in the unit the recipe was written in, which fixed the silent 5/8 cup → 10 tbsp conversion. The other side of that report is still open: there is no way to ask for a conversion when you do want one.
Things to decide:
- Converting on request — e.g. show a US recipe in metric, or the other way round, from a CLI flag and a web UI preference. This needs the cooklang unit database (
bundled_units), which #433 turned off because it also brought the lossy fraction display and the "best unit" step; turning it back on has to keep both off unless asked. - Unit names — keep what the recipe says (today), or always the abbreviation / the full name (
cvscupvscups), with plurals. - Where the setting lives —
config/, the web Preferences page, CLI flags, and whether the shopping list follows it.
