調査の方向性

Start by reading commit 1a1863b0, “install: Simplify offline deployment mounting,” and trace the empty-rootfs verification path that produces the reported error. Check whether WSL lacks the syscall used there and identify a viable fallback; done when disk image export works on WSL without that syscall while preserving the existing verification behavior.

説明

Just around last week, I was able to use bootc / osbuilder to create (cross-arch amd64 (host) arm64(target) ) disk images from WSL - but it seems recently there was a change in bootc and the project is using a new syscall that being used that isn't supported on WSL (yet). Claude indicates that it's likely 'open_tree' from commit 1a1863b0 — "install: Simplify offline deployment mounting" from @cgwalters

error: Installing to filesystem: Verifying empty rootfs: Requiring directory contains only mount points: Function not implemented (os error 38)
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/run/osbuild/bin/org.osbuild.bootc.install-to-filesystem", line 92, in <module>
    r = main(args["options"], args["inputs"], args["paths"])
  File "/run/osbuild/bin/org.osbuild.bootc.install-to-filesystem", line 84, in main
    subprocess.run(pargs, env=env, check=True)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  File "/usr/lib/python3.13/subprocess.py", line 577, in run
    raise CalledProcessError(retcode, process.args,
                             output=stdout, stderr=stderr)
This is the error that is generates now, was quite happy I was no longer starting to need a VM to do an image export, so I hope this could be fixed. I understand that bootc is development mostly done on distributions, that can likely target newer kernel features. That being said, would it be possible to probe the kernel for supported/missing syscalls, and have fall back if syscall isn't supported?
Exporting of a disk images, often the only (practical-) way of getting started before you can start pulling from the container repository.
