説明

Hi, I noticed a small issue with the QuickLook 4.5.0 MSI installer.

After installing QuickLook using QuickLook-4.5.0.msi, the icon displayed in Windows Control Panel → Programs and Features (appwiz.cpl) is a generic Windows Installer icon instead of the official QuickLook icon.

The application itself works fine, and QuickLook.exe has the correct icon. It seems to be an issue with how the MSI installer registers the application icon in Windows.

What I found:

I checked the uninstall registry entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{6B6946D5-D3E9-48F9-AA6C-70133B09D730}

The values are:

  • DisplayName: QuickLook
  • DisplayVersion: 4.5.0.0
  • DisplayIcon: Empty
  • InstallLocation: Empty

I also checked the installer source code:

It looks like the WiX installer configuration doesn't define an Icon element or set the ARPPRODUCTICON property, which might explain why Windows shows the generic icon.

Expected behavior:

The official QuickLook icon should appear in Windows Programs and Features, just like it does for the application executable and its shortcuts.

Environment:

  • QuickLook 4.5.0
  • Official MSI installer
  • Windows 11 26H2
  • Installation path: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\QuickLook

This is just a cosmetic issue and doesn't affect functionality, but it would be nice to have the correct icon displayed.

Would it be possible to add the appropriate icon registration to the MSI installer in a future update?
