Apollo currently uses a fixed version of python, 3.11.
This means we're locked to an older docker vesion in prod, and also it's a bit of a pain for developers setting up.
IIRC the reason for this is the poetry venv config. There's a path setup somewhere from the very early days of apollo which hard-codes the python version into it. I think this is the only reason for locking to 3.11 like we do.
Let's fix that.
BONUS FIX
Once python has been updated, I want to edit the dockerfile from this:
RUN apt-get update && apt-get install -y git curl
RUN apt-get install -y --only-upgrade ca-certificates
To this:
RUN apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
RUN apt-get install -y git curl
This will encourage the docker image to use the latest (theoretically most secure) versions of packages available. See https://ubuntu.com/blog/emudhra-ca-compromise-fixes-available
And can anyone remember why we have nodejs in the image? I think the version of bun we were using required it?
