For the sidebar, compare the Spotify rows in the Playlists panel with the Qobuz not-logged-in line in src/tui/ui/library.rs. Done when a non-first-run launch with no cached Spotify login shows the login hint, using app.user_config.keys.manage_devices for the key, and a test covers the no-session case.

Describe the bug
When spotatui starts with no cached Spotify login and it is not the first run, it starts without Spotify and says nothing. The Spotify rows (Liked Songs, Albums, Artists, Discover) are hidden, the playlist panel only shows the pinned spotatui community playlist, and the welcome screen has no hint. The user only sees "Spotify not connected. Press d and pick Spotify to log in." after they try to play something.

This hits users who upgrade from a release before 0.45.0 and never had a librespot login cached (for example because native streaming never worked for them). Their old Web API login does not carry over, the first-run picker does not show again, and boot takes the CachedOrNone path in spotify_auth_mode (src/runtime/bootstrap.rs), which returns no session and no notice.

A user on Discord ran into this today on 0.45.0 (EndeavourOS, AUR). Their log has no session lines at all: no new Session, no Connecting to AP.

To Reproduce

  1. Have a config.yml from an earlier run, so this is not a first run.
  2. Remove the cached Spotify login from the streaming cache.
  3. Start spotatui.
  4. See a sidebar with no Spotify rows and no message that says how to log in.

Expected behavior
The app tells the user that Spotify is not connected and how to log in, the same way Qobuz does in the Playlists panel: (not logged in, press d, pick Qobuz) in src/tui/ui/library.rs.

Possible solution:

  • When App has no Spotify session and the active source is Spotify, show one line in the Playlists panel (and a line on the welcome screen) built from app.user_config.keys.manage_devices, like the Qobuz row.
  • Or have spotify_login return a startup notice in the CachedOrNone case when there is no cached login, so boot sets a status message.

Done when: a non-first-run launch with no cached Spotify login shows how to log in before the user tries to play anything, and a test covers the no-session sidebar or notice.
