Direzione di ricerca

The issue bundles three separate UX requests (interface layout, timeline gap behavior, subtitle segmentation) and names no files or modules. Before any code change, a maintainer should split it into scoped issues, each with an acceptance test. For a newcomer there is no entry point: start by reading the existing editor and subtitle components to see if any of the three is independently fixable, then propose one narrow change.

Is your feature request related to a problem?

I would like to suggest a few improvements for Recordly based on my experience using the app:

  1. Interface layout and track sizing: There is currently no way to freely adjust the page space and layout. The video editing track takes up too small a portion of the screen, while other UI elements are oversized. This makes adding subtitles and making fine adjustments quite cumbersome. It would be helpful to allow users to either enlarge the editing track area or freely adjust the overall size and proportions of the interface.
  2. Timeline gaps and clipping behavior: After cutting a video track, the removed section simply leaves a gap that cannot be closed by pulling the clips back together. Trying to close the gap ends up restoring the deleted footage to the timeline, which feels counterintuitive. Additionally, when a gap is left in the timeline, playback cannot continue smoothly past it; you have to manually click on the next clip to resume previewing. Ideally, users should be able to complete their editing directly inside Recordly without needing to export and re-edit in another software, and gap management on the timeline needs to be much smoother.
  3. Auto-generated subtitles: As a Chinese user, I noticed that whenever I readjust my zoom area, the auto-generated subtitles often fail to break up properly. Instead of splitting long text into balanced segments lasting several seconds, the system frequently generates massive blocks of subtitles running 10 to 15 seconds long, all contained within a single subtitle box, making them impossible to read. While manual splitting is an option, the cramped interface and clumsy multi-track switching make manual adjustments very tedious. This practically forces users to export and use external software for subtitles, which defeats the purpose of having a built-in auto-captioning feature.

I hope the team can take a look at these areas for future updates.
