Summary

On /docs/kbd, selecting text that is partly a keycap (the kbd mark) and partly plain text, then choosing More > Keyboard input, leaves both parts as they were: the keycap stays and the plain text stays plain. On platejs.org the same toggle removes the keycap from the whole selection. Sin found it in Firefox.

Reproduction

Repro 1: /docs/kbd, Firefox

An agent ran this in Firefox on macOS on 2026-10-21, five times including once in a fresh tab, and twice on platejs.org.

  1. Open https://beta.platejs.org/docs/kbd.
  2. In the demo editor, make a line that reads KEY as a keycap followed by PLAIN as plain text.
  3. Select the whole line, KEYPLAIN.
  4. In the floating toolbar, choose More > Keyboard input.

Results:

  • Beta: KEY keeps its keycap, and PLAIN stays plain. The menu item has no visible effect on this selection.
  • https://platejs.org/docs/kbd: KEY loses its keycap, and the whole line is plain text.

Sin confirmed it by hand on 2026-10-23 (Beijing time).

Expected

Keyboard input on a mixed selection gives the whole selection one state. platejs.org removes the keycap from all of it. Sin expects the same.

Actual

As listed under Results. Beta changes neither part.

Environment

  • Exact next commit/Beta package version: NOT_ENOUGH_INFO. The page does not show its build.
  • Firefox on macOS, 2026-10-21; the version was not noted. Sin's hand check on 2026-10-23 (Beijing time).
  • Not tried in Chrome, Safari or on a phone. Not replayed on the live Beta after 2026-10-23.

Caveat

The cause was not traced.

Evidence

  • Repro 1: the agent's recording, 0:13, Beta on the left and platejs.org on the right, recorded separately and aligned by step, with a zoomed view of the line below each side. An internal record number in the title is covered with a dark box. The zoomed views show the result: Beta still has KEY as a keycap before PLAIN, and platejs.org shows KEYPLAIN as plain text.
