Direzione di ricerca

Inspect the service definitions under install/ and the Dockerfile, starting with how the systemd unit and container main process handle child processes and stop signals. Add coverage for killing the main PaperPi process and stopping the container, then verify that plugin, forkserver, and resource-tracker processes also terminate while systemd retains KillMode=control-group.

Descrizione

area:install

From the security review of the scheduler PR (#206).

What

When the main PaperPi process is killed hard (kill -9), its helper processes keep running: a hanging plugin process, the forkserver (the process that starts plugin processes) and Python's resource tracker. The service file must make the service manager stop every process of PaperPi, not only the main one:

  • systemd: keep the default KillMode=control-group (do not set process or none), and check it with a test that kills the main process.
  • Docker: the container's main process must pass stop signals on, and stopping the container must end all processes in it (e.g. --init / tini).

Area

install (install/, Dockerfile).
