Direzione di ricerca

Start with the explain report and review the horizon-distance calculation described in the issue, including the differing profile lengths referenced in #382. Get scientist sign-off on whether thin-evidence slices should be down-weighted before changing behavior. Done means the weighting decision is approved and the snapshots have been regenerated.

Scritto dal modello di indicizzazione a partire dal testo della issue.

Descrizione

Type: design decision (needs scientist input). Surfaced via the explain report.

The horizon distance is Σ(wt × cm × slice_dist) ÷ Σ(wt × cm), where wt is only the depth weight (0.2 in the top 20 cm, 1.0 below). It does not depend on how many properties were actually comparable at that depth. So a centimetre where only one property (or only the 3 color channels) overlapped has the same influence as a centimetre backed by all six.

Example: where a candidate's texture profile ends a cm before its color profile (see #382), the resulting color-only slice gets full weight.

Question: should each slice be down-weighted by the fraction of (weighted) properties actually compared — e.g. multiply its contribution by present_weight / total_weight — so thin-evidence slices count less? Needs sign-off + snapshot regen.
