Context

The current MCP implementation generates host configuration, but standard stdio initialization does not complete because it expects Content-Length framing. Tool calls return CLI argument text rather than executing OPSd operations. Existing tests pass while asserting these behaviors. Separate workspaces also expose an examples-resource error.

Scope

  • Restore standard MCP stdio compatibility and meaningful tool execution, targeting only protocol revision 2026-07-28 without legacy compatibility.
  • Define confirmation behavior, workspace context, and the supported MCP workflow.
  • Deliver independent official SDK/schema protocol tests and checkout CI in W9.1; deliver feature-specific tests with each W9.2–W9.5 implementation.
  • Use W9.6 for final combined workflow and portable-bundle qualification, and W9.7 for actual host verification and setup documentation.
  • Publish setup and troubleshooting documentation based on verified behavior.
  • Keep qualification local: cloud apply, deployment, and real infrastructure mutations are outside this work.

Acceptance criteria

  • A user can connect an MCP 2026-07-28-capable client using the documented generated configuration.
  • Discovery, resource reading, prompt rendering, manifest validation, and manifest rendering work through MCP.
  • Missing or invalid input produces actionable errors; successful rendering creates expected files.
  • Confirmation-gated actions cannot run without explicit confirmation.
  • Checkout and portable-bundle qualification passes, and documented host support is backed by evidence.
  • Each implementation PR includes its relevant passing tests; protocol conformance and checkout CI are not deferred to the final qualification ticket.
  • All seven W9 subtasks are complete.
