What problem does this solve?

Currently, macOS users install RustGIS via Homebrew from the custom tap (brew install --cask opengeos/rustgis/rustgis). On Homebrew 5.1 and later, this also requires approving the tap once with brew trust opengeos/rustgis.

An official cask would allow:

  • a simple brew install --cask rustgis, without adding or trusting a third-party tap
  • automatic listing in Homebrew GUI front ends that show official casks, such as CaskHub
Proposed solution

Submit rustgis to Homebrew/homebrew-cask once it is eligible, based on the cask already in opengeos/homebrew-rustgis. The macOS DMG is already signed and notarized, which matches Homebrew's Gatekeeper requirements for casks.

Note: Homebrew's notability rule for self-submissions (90 forks, 90 watchers or 225 stars) is not met yet, but its Acceptable Casks policy allows further review for casks backed by an established maintainer. Otherwise, this issue can stay open as a tracker until the thresholds are reached.
