Direzione di ricerca

Start with the existing raster.georeference implementation; the issue names no file or test path, so locate its code and tests before choosing a PR. PR 1 is described as ready, but the issue does not say what it changes or define completion for the later workflow. The proposed series spans fitting methods, image handling, warping, formats, and UI; first clarify which PR is available and its acceptance criteria.

Descrizione

enhancement

I'd like to grow RustGIS's georeferencer into a full workflow and contribute it as a series of small PRs. Today raster.georeference fits a north-up scale and shift, and a raw scan with no tie point can't be opened. The plan:

  1. raster.gcpFit: similarity, affine, projective, polynomial 2 and 3, and thin plate spline fits, with residuals in pixels and map units (QGIS's definition), RMSE, leave-one-out error, and a comparison that recommends a transform
  2. Open TIFF, JPEG and PNG scans that have no tie point
  3. Warp to a north-up grid in any EPSG, with a native COG writer
  4. Read and write QGIS .points and IIIF Georeference Annotations
  5. A Georeferencer window: image and map panes side by side, a loupe, residual arrows, a point table, synced panes
  6. A transform picker with plain-language descriptions and a spread meter
  7. Drag to fit: move, scale and rotate a scan over the basemap before placing points
  8. Other output formats through GDAL when it's installed
  9. Optional: cut-lines and masks for sheets with several maps
  10. Optional: a Suggest Points plugin that matches against a reference image

Everything below the UI stays wasm-safe, with no new dependencies. PR 1 is ready. Would you take this series? Any preferences on where the window should live, or on a native COG writer versus GDAL, would shape the later PRs.
