Context

ADR 0010 is Proposed. The demo pack is CC0-1.0, the noir pack CC-BY-4.0, and both generation flows default to CC-BY-4.0. Open questions: how far LLM-generated text is protected by copyright (human authorship requirements, for example at the US Copyright Office and in section 2(2) of the German Copyright Act), whether CC0 is the better default for largely generated packs, whether a minimum of human editing is required, and how derived packs such as translations record their sources. The generation workflow of this milestone sets a license on every pack it creates, so the default must be decided first. This is not legal advice.

Options

  • A. Accept as proposed: CC-BY-4.0 recommended; authors choose any license that lets the project redistribute the pack.
  • B. CC0-1.0 as the default for largely generated packs, CC-BY-4.0 for substantially human-written packs.
  • C. CC0-1.0 for all community packs.

Scope

  • Decide; set ADR 0010 to Accepted, or supersede it with a new ADR.
  • Align the defaults of lexvm generate, the prompt kit, the proposal form, CONTRIBUTING.md and packs/README.md.
  • Check that CC BY attribution is given wherever packs are distributed: library cards (author and license are shown today), lexvm-offline.html and release assets.
  • A rule for attribution in derived packs.

Acceptance criteria

  • ADR 0010 is Accepted or superseded, with each open question answered or explicitly deferred.
  • Defaults in the CLI, prompts, issue form and docs match the decision.
  • Attribution for CC BY packs is given in the player, the offline build and releases.
