The report does not name a file, test or entry point; the responsible component is unknown and the reporter has not supplied iPadOS, Acrobat or app versions. Start by checking whether the iOS app's File Provider extension is the component that handles saves from Files, and reproduce the save with a file-provider log. Done would mean the component is identified, the missing annotations are traced to a specific write path, and the report is moved to the right repository.

Summary

PDF annotations made in Adobe Acrobat on iPad do not persist to the Nextcloud server when saving through Apple's Files integration. Saving appears successful and the server's modification timestamp changes, but the server copy lacks all new annotations.

Environment

  • Nextcloud Hub 26 Winter, server version 33.0.5
  • iPad with Apple Pencil
  • Adobe Acrobat accessing Nextcloud through Apple's Files integration
  • iPadOS, Acrobat, and Nextcloud iOS app versions: not yet collected

Steps to reproduce

  1. Enable Nextcloud as a location in Apple's Files app.
  2. Open a Nextcloud PDF in Adobe Acrobat through the Files picker.
  3. Add handwritten annotations using Apple Pencil.
  4. Save the document back to its original location.
  5. Download the PDF from Nextcloud and inspect it in other applications.

Expected behavior

The annotations persist in the server copy and remain visible when that PDF is downloaded and opened elsewhere.

Actual behavior

Saving appears successful and Nextcloud updates the file's modification timestamp, but none of the annotations appear in the server copy. Repeated attempts produce the same result. The downloaded PDF also lacks annotations across platforms and PDF readers, so this is not limited to Nextcloud's browser preview.

Additional context

This report records the affected user's observations; the responsible component has not been isolated. Please investigate the Acrobat-to-Nextcloud File Provider save workflow, or advise which component should receive the report. No client documents, private server URLs, or logs are included.
