Environment

  • Nextcloud iOS app 35.0.0
  • Nextcloud server 35.0.1 (self-hosted on TrueNAS, app version 2.3.76)
  • Library: ~29,000 media files in one external local storage folder (~26,000 images, ~2,800 videos, mixed in the same folders)

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the app → Media tab.
  2. Set the filter to "Videos only".
  3. Scroll down repeatedly, wait, clear the app cache, refresh.

Expected: all ~2,800 videos are listed, with older videos loaded as I scroll.

Actual: only a small number of videos is shown (21, then 12, then 65 across attempts). It does not grow with scrolling. Photos and videos from the Files tab and the web Photos app show the full set (2,825 videos) for the same account.

Analysis (from a packet capture of the app's requests)

  • The app sends one SEARCH /remote.php/dav request with X-NC-Paginate-Count: 200 and X-NC-Paginate-Offset: 0.
  • The d:where clause is (like image/% OR like video/%) AND (date <= 4001-01-01 AND date >= 2017-05-28), ordered descending.
  • So images and videos are requested together and the "Videos" filter seems to be applied on-device to the loaded page(s). Since videos are only about 9% of the library, a 200-item page contains few videos, and no further requests were seen while scrolling (only 2 SEARCH requests in a 150 s capture).
  • The server returns the full set when queried directly: the same SEARCH with only video/% returns all videos.
