Direzione di ricerca

Start by inventorying the extension’s task.json files to identify tasks using the Node.js 20 handler, then read Microsoft’s Node.js 24 migration guide linked in the issue. Update each affected task’s handler and dependencies, and investigate compatibility issues. Done means affected tasks run on Node.js 24 across Windows, Linux, and macOS agents and the extension is published with release notes.

Descrizione

Is your feature request related to a problem?

Azure DevOps extension tasks still depend on the Node.js 20 task runner, which has reached end of life. This means affected tasks continue to execute using an unsupported runtime.

Please prioritize this migration as soon as possible so customers can run these tasks on a supported Node.js version, rather than continuing to depend on an end-of-life runtime.

Describe the solution you’d like

Upgrade all affected tasks to support Node.js 24 as the preferred execution handler, following Microsoft’s migration guidance:

azure-pipelines-tasks/docs/migrateNode24.md at master · microsoft/azure-pipelines-tasks

The migration should include:

  • Adding the Node24 execution handler in each affected task’s task.json.
  • Updating dependencies and resolving any Node.js 24 compatibility issues.
  • Testing the tasks on supported Windows, Linux, and macOS agents.
  • Publishing an updated extension with release notes describing the change.

The existing Node handler may be retained as a temporary backward-compatibility fallback for older agents. However, tasks should use Node.js 24 whenever it is available and should not require EOL Node.js to be installed.

Expected outcome

Customers can execute JFrog extension tasks using Node.js 24 without relying on an end-of-life Node.js runner. Tasks continue to work when the Node.js 20 runner is removed from Azure Pipelines agents.
