Direzione di ricerca

Start by tracing the backend’s publish_grades flow and the assignment enrollment data; the issue does not name the relevant files or tests. Then investigate email-provider options and the shared configuration needed for this feature and the forgot-password flow in #11. Done means enrolled students are emailed when grades are published, with provider credentials configured through environment variables and email off by default in development and test; editing or skipping the message is optional.

Descrizione

backend feature

Split out from #243, which listed "Compose email to students (notification of grades being published)" as a stretch goal. Everything else in #243 is done or covered by #373.

When an instructor publishes grades for a held assignment (#373), enrolled students should get an email saying their grades are available.

The backend has no email infrastructure yet (no SMTP, Flask-Mail, SendGrid, etc.), so the first step is picking a provider and adding config. The forgot-password flow in #11 needs the same setup, so it makes sense to design it once for both.

Rough scope:

  • Pick an email provider and add config (credentials through env, off by default in dev and test)
  • Email enrolled students when publish_grades publishes an assignment's grades
  • Optional: let the instructor skip or edit the message in the Publish Grades modal
