Direzione di ricerca

Start by comparing the existing reference format and label lookup paths with the proposed RefMint prefixes, parser, and checksum behavior. The issue names no repository files or tests and reports no integration testing or measured user benefit, so first locate the current reference handling and assess whether the optional workflow fits. Done means deciding whether to adopt it and, if so, defining how box and item labels work while preserving existing IDs and manufacturer serials.

Descrizione

I maintain RefMint, a TypeScript library for public references with a type prefix and a Bech32m checksum.

Problem or use case

Kept tracks boxes, locations and things. A person reading an item label from another room could type a reference to find the item even without scanning a code.

Proposed solution

Evaluate optional RefMint labels with separate box/item prefixes and a local lookup parser. Preserve manufacturer serials and existing IDs; compare against existing labels before adopting another reference format.

Trade-offs and current status

The first alpha is available as a GitHub package archive, not on npm. It targets Node 22+ and Web Crypto browsers, with no runtime dependencies. The format may change and adds six checksum characters. A checksum is not authorization. Keeping the current reference format is a valid alternative.

I checked the released package (generation, formatting, parsing and typo rejection); I have not tested an integration here or measured a benefit for your users. Would this optional workflow be useful, or is the current approach sufficient?
