Summary

atelier_unavailable() in crates/iris-agentic-dev-core/src/tools/nopws.rs returns true whenever the IRIS version string contains 2026.2.0AI:

That heuristic matches the enterprise irishealth:2026.2.0AI.* builds that ship WebServer=0 (DPP-1192). It also matches the community AI Hub EAP images, and those do have the private web server. On a community image Atelier REST works, but iad refuses iris_doc, iris_symbols and docs_introspect with NOPWS_ATELIER_REQUIRED.

Environment

  • iris-agentic-dev 1.7.0 (macos-arm64 release asset); the same result on 1.6.2
  • Image: docker.iscinternal.com/docker-intersystems/intersystems/irishealth-community:2026.2.0AI.162.0 (the same applies to iris-community:2026.2.0AI.162.0)
  • IRIS for UNIX (Ubuntu Server LTS for ARM64 Containers) 2026.2.0AI (Shelves 8246870) (Build 162U)
  • .iris-agentic-dev.toml: host = "localhost", web_port = 8076 (mapped to 52773), container = "..."

Steps to reproduce

  1. Run the community AI Hub EAP image with 52773 mapped to a host port, and set a working _SYSTEM password.
  2. curl -u _SYSTEM:<pw> http://localhost:<port>/api/atelier/ returns 200, and GET /api/atelier/v1/<NS>/doc/%25AI.Agent.cls returns the source.
  3. check_config reports capabilities.atelier_rest: false, private_web_server: false, compile_path: docker_exec.
  4. iris_doc(mode="head", name="%AI.Agent.cls") returns NOPWS_ATELIER_REQUIRED.

This survives an MCP restart and a TOML reload. No configuration key turns Atelier on: docker_only and nopws can only turn it off.

Expected

When an authenticated GET /api/atelier/ succeeds, use Atelier REST, even on a 2026.2.0AI build. Fall back to the version sniff only when the live probe fails, which is the enterprise NoPWS case.

Suggested fix

In atelier_unavailable, prefer the result of the live Atelier probe that check_config already makes in 1.7.0 (the "one GET /api/atelier/ login probe") over version.contains("2026.2.0AI"). Alternatively, limit the sniff to non-community builds, but the probe is more robust for the next AI builds.

Search done before filing

There is no existing issue for this. I searched for NoPWS, 2026.2.0AI, atelier_rest, private web server and DPP-1192. #28 and #89 are related, but they cover enterprise images that really have no PWS, and container binding.
