Problem

Bumping tsx from 4.23.7 → 4.23.15 (Dependabot group PR #128) fails the quality job's coverage gate even though all 50 tests pass:

main (tsx 4.23.7) reports 100% function coverage on the same tests.

Diagnosis

  • Reproduced locally on the PR head; reverting only tsx to 4.23.7 restores 100%.
  • tsx 4.23.15 ships esbuild 0.28. An lcov report shows exactly one uncovered function per file, named anonymous_0 — a transform-injected helper, not application code. All real functions remain covered.
  • So this is instrumentation noise, not a coverage regression. Lowering the threshold is not an option (ADR-0011).

Interim

tsx is held at 4.23.7 in #128 and Dependabot is told to ignore newer tsx versions until this is resolved.

To resolve

Pick one, then remove the pin + the ignore entry in .github/dependabot.yml:

  1. Find a tsx/esbuild option or upstream fix that stops the helper being counted, or
  2. Exclude the injected helper from coverage without excluding real code, or
  3. Run coverage on a transform that doesn't inject it.

Acceptance: pnpm test:coverage passes on the latest tsx with the gate unchanged.
