Steps to Reproduce
- Send DB spans over OTLP. These have no
span.group(getsentry/relay#6537). - Insights > Backend > Queries, open any query to get the Query Summary dashboard.
- Look at the "Example Query" widget.
Expected Result
The selected query's text, and its source location if the spans have one.
Actual Result
The description and source frame of an unrelated span. For us it's a browser ui.long_animation_frame span, so a Postgres query's example reads https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=G-XXXXXXXXXX.
The widget's own query is correct (span.category:db has:sentry.normalized_description plus the dashboard filters) and returns a matching span. DetailsWidgetVisualization then passes that span's span.group to DatabaseSpanDescription, which re-queries with MutableSearch.fromQueryObject({'span.group': groupId ?? undefined}), limit 1, sorted by -code.filepath. With no group that is an empty search across the whole project, and its result's description takes precedence over preliminaryDescription.

Suggested fix: skip the span.group lookup when groupId is missing and show preliminaryDescription.
