Start by reading win32.py, ring.py, radiald.py, tray.py, and studio.py to map the Windows-specific app/plugin communication, hotkeys, overlay, tray, and window handling. Then identify the ZScript plugin path and installer setup that must gain macOS variants, including Application Support, !: paths, ZFileUtilsU.lib, packaging, signing, and notarisation. Done means the app and plugin communicate and the required UI and permissions work on Intel and Apple Silicon macOS builds, with distributable .dmg or .pkg packages.

ZOrbit only runs on Windows. A Mac version would need:

  • A new way for the plugin and the app to talk. Today it's a hidden WM_APP listener window with WM_TIMER retries.
  • A new global hotkey, ring overlay, tray (the menu bar on a Mac) and window handling. All of it is Win32 now (win32.py, ring.py, radiald.py, tray.py, studio.py).
  • The Accessibility permission for the hotkey and cursor tracking. Ask once and show whether it's on in the Status screen.
  • The ring opening over ZBrush without bringing ZOrbit to the front, and care with stuck modifier keys and non-Latin input sources.
  • Settings in ~/Library/Application Support instead of %APPDATA%.
  • For the ZScript plugin: paths for FileNameSetNext need a !: prefix, and ZBrush 2023 and later need the universal ZFileUtilsU.lib.
  • A .dmg or .pkg instead of the Inno Setup installer, with separate Apple Silicon and Intel builds. Gatekeeper is harder on unsigned apps than SmartScreen, so this probably needs a paid Apple Developer account and notarisation.

It's a lot of work. If you'd use ZOrbit on a Mac, a thumbs-up here tells me how many people want it.
