Problem

Navigation and icon-only controls do not tell assistive technology what they are or which one is current.

  • The nav links have no aria-current="page". The active item is shown only by color and weight (app/views/layouts/_user_nav_item.html.erb:3-5, _user_bottom_nav_item.html.erb:3-4).
  • The two <nav> elements have no aria-label. A screen reader user hears "navigation" twice.
  • On medium screens the rail shows icons only. The only name comes from the title attribute (_user_nav_item.html.erb:4). A title attribute is not a reliable name on touch screens.
  • Decorative SVG icons have no aria-hidden="true", in the nav, the cards, and the buttons.
  • The back arrow on the friend requests page is an icon-only link with no name (app/views/dashboard/friends/requests.html.erb:5-7).
  • The schedule view toggle (List, Week, Month) and the Prev and Next links show the current choice by color only. They have no aria-current (app/views/dashboard/schedules/_calendar.html.erb, view toggle near line 33).
  • The initial letter avatar in the rail has no label (layouts/user.html.erb:50-54).
  • The Sign out control sends a DELETE through data-turbo-method on a link. It is a link that acts like a button. Use button_to.
  • The page has no skip link. A keyboard user tabs through seven nav items on every page.
  • The m3-btn-* classes define no focus-visible style. The inputs hide the outline and use a 1px ring (application.css:226,229), which is thin on the surface-container-highest background.

Fix

  1. Add aria-current and aria-label to the navs. Add aria-hidden to decorative icons. Add aria-label to icon-only links.
  2. Add a "Skip to content" link in layouts/user.html.erb and give <main> an id.
  3. Add a shared focus-visible:ring-2 rule to the m3-btn-* and m3-input classes.
  4. Use button_to for Sign out.
