Start by reproducing the failed print with the Brother MFC-8370DN and the simple terminal text-file test described in the issue. Use the CUPS administration interface at http://localhost:631/ to inspect the queued job and compare the behavior across attempts. Done means a submitted document produces physical output in Ubuntu.

I am using an HP 800 All-in-One PC with a dual-boot setup: Windows 11 and Ubuntu 24.04.5.

I installed the Brother MFC-8370DN printer, and the installation appeared to go smoothly.

Since it is a multifunction device, I tested the scanner function, and it works perfectly.

However, when I try to print any document, nothing happens—or rather:

  • the process starts and "apparently" completes successfully, yet there is NO output from the printer;

  • I tried printing a simple text file from the terminal, but again, nothing printed;

  • I tried configuring the printer via the administration interface at http://localhost:631/ but with no success; the job count increases, but still no printing occurs.

The printer works correctly in Windows (though I detest Windows...), whereas in Ubuntu, I simply cannot print.

The issue is likely related to CUPS, as I encountered the same problems on Ubuntu 20.04 (though only from a certain date onwards).

Could you please offer some suggestions on how to resolve this frustrating problem?
