On Reddit, someone asked for a PEQ (parametric equalizer). People use one to correct the sound of their headphones, usually with a preset from AutoEQ. spotatui has no audio EQ at all right now, for any source.

Describe the solution you'd like

  • A parametric EQ that applies to all playback: the decoded sources (Local, Subsonic, Radio, YouTube, Qobuz) through LocalPlayer in src/infra/audio/player.rs, and Spotify through librespot (this probably needs a hook in our librespot fork's audio pipeline).
  • Per band: filter type (peak, low shelf, high shelf), frequency, gain and Q. Plus a preamp, so boosts do not clip.
  • Import of AutoEQ / Equalizer APO presets in the ParametricEQ.txt format, for example: 
    Preamp: -6.2 dB
Filter 1: ON LSC Fc 105 Hz Gain 5.5 dB Q 0.70
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 3150 Hz Gain -4.1 dB Q 2.00
  • An on/off toggle and a preset picker in the TUI and the desktop app.

Describe alternatives you've considered

A system-wide EQ already works today: Equalizer APO on Windows, EasyEffects on Linux, eqMac on macOS. A built-in EQ is easier to set up and travels with the app's config.

Additional context

An EQ changes the samples, so it conflicts with bit-perfect output (#783). When bit-perfect mode is on, the EQ has to be off.
