Start by running the two-line repro from the issue against eigenscript 0.45.1 and against reference Lua 5.4, and compare with the Tier D gate's output for num_print.lua. Find where the division-by-zero error is raised, and check whether it comes from EigenLua's arithmetic lowering or from the EigenScript runtime, using the earlier read_line removal (EigenScript#1695) as a precedent. Done when a Tier D row covering 1/0, -1/0 and pcall(rawset, {}, 0/0, 1) matches the reference and num_print.lua no longer diverges on line 1.

Found by the blind critic for fix-small-4. Reproduces on origin/main 9536f4c with eigenscript 0.45.1.

print(1/0, -1/0)
print(pcall(function() return 0/0 end))
  • PUC-Rio 5.4.9: inf -inf / true -nan
  • eigenlua: lua: z2.lua:1: EigenScript value error: division by zero with rc=1. The whole program dies, and pcall cannot catch it.

So float division by zero (and 0/0, which in turn breaks rawset(t, 0/0, v) → table index is NaN) is a fatal VM error, not IEEE inf/nan. num_print.lua already diverges on line 1 (cand= empty), probably for this reason, so the Tier D gate has been reporting it as part of the baseline. Check whether the cause is an EigenScript change, in the same way read_line was removed (EigenScript#1695).

Done when

A Tier D row that prints 1/0, -1/0, and pcall(rawset, {}, 0/0, 1) MATCHes the reference, and num_print.lua no longer diverges on line 1 (or its remaining divergence is attributed to something else).
