Start with rigs/yaesu/ftx1/ftx1_cw.c and the FTX-1 CAT manual section on CW keying memory play; review PRs #2117 and #2118 for related driver context. Update the send and stop behavior to use the documented memory-play commands, accounting for the 50-character limit and the designated scratch slot. Done when sending keys the radio and stopping halts playback on FTX-1 hardware.

Descrizione

Hardware-verified finding on a Yaesu FTX-1 (Optima/SPA-1 head, 2026 firmware), reported from the FTX-1 CAT work behind PRs #2117/#2118.

Problem: rigs/yaesu/ftx1/ftx1_cw.c implements:

  • ftx1_send_morse → KY0<msg>; (direct-text send, FT-991 style)
  • ftx1_stop_morse → KY0;

On real FTX-1 hardware both are rejected with ? — tested in CW mode with the keyer enabled (KR1) and break-in on (BI1), TX polled throughout (the radio never keys).

The FTX-1 CAT manual (FTX-1_CAT_OM_ENG_2508-C, p.18, 'CW KEYING MEMORY PLAY') defines KY differently: KY <P1> <P2>; with two single-digit parameters — P1: 0=CW TEXT memory bank, 1=CW MESSAGE (paddle-recorded) bank; P2: 0=STOP, 1–5=slot playback. There is no direct-text send form on this radio.

Hardware confirmation of the correct forms (CW mode, BI1, dummy load):

  • KM1TEST TEST; (keyer TEXT memory write) → sticks (readback KM1TEST TEST}; — note the } terminator)
  • KY01; → accepted (reply-less, like all accepted FTX-1 sets) → radio keys within ~0.4 s (TX read shows TX2)
  • KY00; mid-play → keying stops within ~0.4 s, well before the message's natural end

Suggested fix:

  • ftx1_send_morse: write the text to a keyer TEXT memory slot (KM<slot><text>;, 50-char limit — a designated scratch slot, e.g. 5, documented as overwritten) then play it with KY0<slot>;. Single-digit msg arguments 1–5 can map directly to KY0<n>; (no +5 playback offset on this rig).
  • ftx1_stop_morse: KY00;
  • ftx1_wait_morse: the existing immediate-OK stub is correct (no CW-progress query exists).

Related FTX-1 firmware behaviors observed during the same bench work, in case useful: accepted set commands are reply-less (? only on rejection/busy), and MD mode changes are rejected with ? while break-in (BI1) is engaged.
