Start with os/board/eightsleep/imx8mm-varsom/uboot-env.txt, especially the current mmcpart and bootcmd settings, and compare it with rauc-system.conf and the RAUC U-Boot backend variables named in the issue. Trace how BOOT_ORDER, BOOT_A_LEFT, BOOT_B_LEFT, bootcount, and altbootcmd should select the slot and handle failed boots. Done when an installed inactive slot is selected after OTA and a failed update rolls back automatically.

Descrizione
os/board/eightsleep/imx8mm-varsom/uboot-env.txt hardcodes mmcpart=1 and its bootcmd (lines 43-47) always boots /dev/mmcblk1p1 (slot A); there is no BOOT_ORDER / BOOT_A_LEFT / BOOT_B_LEFT / bootcount / altbootcmd logic at all, and the header comment (lines 18-20) admits 'RAUC slot selection is NOT wired here yet'. Meanwhile rauc-system.conf declares two bootname=A/B slots and BR2_PACKAGE_RAUC=y is set. Consequence: rauc install writes the inactive slot and calls the u-boot backend (fw_setenv BOOT_ORDER/BOOT_x_LEFT), but U-Boot never reads those vars, so after a 'successful' OTA the device still boots the old slot, and a bad update has no auto-rollback. OS-level OTA via RAUC is non-functional until the env implements the boot-count state machine and selects mmcpart from it. (See also #47, the companion issue about RAUC slot device paths.)
