Start by reproducing the approval-resume flow described in the issue and inspect the runner log for pi_trace_spool_export and its pickup_ms value. Compare the approved and denied resumes, then check whether the delay still occurs on a later build, as the report notes it was not remeasured after the cold-sandbox fix. Done means the resumed turn ends within a few seconds after the command finishes, without the long export wait.

A turn that resumed after an approval waited 59.9 seconds at its end for the trace spool export. The command itself took about one second. The user saw "Worked for 1m 1s" for a one-second command.

Reproduce

  1. Open an agent on GKE oss (local sandbox, Pi, Claude Haiku 4.5) in /m with the permission policy Ask.
  2. Ask for a short command, for example "Use the bash tool to run exactly: echo X and reply with only its stdout."
  3. Approve the card.
  4. Time the end of the turn. Read the runner log line for the trace spool export.

Expected

The turn ends within a few seconds after the command finishes, as on a turn without an approval.

What we saw

  • The runner log shows pi_trace_spool_export ... pickup_ms=59901 before the turn ended. The turn row read "Worked for 1m 1s".
  • The Deny resume on the same session waited 9.5 seconds for the same step.
  • Seen on the v0.122.4 release candidate build c8ff96f0, before the fix for the cold sandbox after an approval (#7438). We did not measure it again after that fix. If it does not repeat on a later build, close this issue.

Possible link (a guess, not checked): the api starts the continuation and the caller closes its stream at once, so the runner may wait for a pickup that nobody makes until a 60 second limit.
