Research direction
Start by checking the systemd service configuration and the intel_lpmd startup path to identify what causes the service to exit with status 2. Reproduce the reported failure by starting the service and inspect its logs; compare behavior with and without power-profiles-daemon. Done when the service starts and stays running, with the cause covered by an appropriate test or verification.
