Research direction

Read .zshrc and Brewfile.cli, then check how install/bootstrap.zsh sets up shell configuration. Choose how to make fzf keybindings and completion available on a fresh machine, accounting for the installed fzf version. Done when a fresh bootstrap provides both without relying on a missing ~/.fzf.zsh.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

`.zshrc` sources `~/.fzf.zsh` when it exists:

```zsh
[ -f ~/.fzf.zsh ] && source ~/.fzf.zsh
```

Nothing in the repo creates that file. The Homebrew `fzf` formula in `Brewfile.cli` installs the binary only, and its caveat points at the upstream setup (`$(brew --prefix)/opt/fzf/install`, or `source <(fzf --zsh)` on fzf 0.48+). On a machine bootstrapped from `install/bootstrap.zsh` the keybindings and completion are therefore absent.

Found on the first full tart VM run of the bootstrap, 2026-10-21.

Options

  • Replace the `~/.fzf.zsh` line in `.zshrc` with `command -v fzf >/dev/null && source <(fzf --zsh)`, which needs no generated file and follows the installed version.
  • Or have an installer run `$(brew --prefix)/opt/fzf/install --key-bindings --completion --no-update-rc` and keep the sourced file.

The first is the smaller change and has no state to drift.
