Research direction

Start by reading the extension requirements in this issue, then inspect the native messaging host tracked in #46 and the permission constraints in #47. The extension belongs in extension/ and must support Manifest V3 across Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Done means selected or typed text reaches Quick save on Windows and WSLg, macOS checks are documented, and all three browsers load it unpacked without warnings.

Description

enhancement

Save a prompt from ChatGPT, Claude or any page without leaving the browser.

What to do

  • A browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox, in extension/, on Manifest V3.
  • Save to Prompuff on a selection, and on the text box you're typing in, from the context menu and a keyboard shortcut. It hands the text to Quick save in the app, through the native messaging host (#46).
  • It reads only the selection and the focused text box, never a chat site's own page structure. Extensions that hooked into ChatGPT's page broke with each redesign (market research, 2026-10-10).
  • It asks for the fewest permissions saving needs, such as contextMenus, activeTab and nativeMessaging, and no host permissions. #47 holds it to that.
  • When Prompuff isn't installed or its host isn't connected, the extension says how to connect it and keeps the text, so nothing is lost.

Done when

  • A selection on any page, and what's typed in ChatGPT's and Claude's text boxes, lands in Quick save on Windows and in WSLg. On macOS it's checked on CI as far as a runner allows, and the pull request says what was left to check by hand.
  • The extension loads unpacked in Chrome, Edge and Firefox with no warnings.
