Research direction

Start by reading the Data.Map operations named in the issue: mapKeysMonotonic, map, mapMaybeWithKey, mapKeys, and the list-conversion path. Determine which combinations are in scope and how their behavior can be validated; done means the selected optimizations are implemented without changing observable results.

Description

feature-request Map

For Data.Map, at least, it should be pretty easy to fuse mapKeysMonotonic with map, and probably even with mapMaybeWithKey. For mapKeys more generally, we might want to take another look at combos with list operations. For example, toList . mapMaybeWithKey f could be rewritten to convert to a list first and then mapMaybe.
