Research direction

Start by locating the SQS message visibility-extension logic and any existing timing tests. Trace how the initial visibility window is doubled, then verify that long-running tasks refresh visibility without exceeding the proposed cap; add or update tests for extended processing and crash recovery behavior.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

For a sufficiently long-running task, the initial visibility window (usually 30 seconds, but it's configurable) will keep doubling over the lifetime of the process. After around 7 doublings, we'd be adding an entire hour of visibility to the message - so if something did crash, that could end up taking a full hour to be able to be visible again.

Instead, we should probably cap the amount of time that we'll extend the window by - maybe at around 10 minutes? Then, every 5 minutes or so, we'll expand it out to another 10 minutes, and so on, until the process completes or crashes.
