Description

Problem

Latents Composite Mask places source_latent onto destination_latent at a pixel offset set by the x_offset and y_offset sliders. The node shows nothing about where that offset lands, so users guess a value, run the workflow, decode the result, and try again until the source is where they want it.

Wanted: a way to see and set the source's placement on the destination directly, the way the Crop Image node's editor widget lets you drag a crop box over the image.

Origin

Reported by Jason Schleifer while using the node in the editor.

Impact

Every composite with a non-zero offset takes several trial runs, and each one is a full diffusion/decode pass. It's a usability paper cut, not a blocker.

Possible direction

  • A widget similar to CropImageEditor in the standard library: show the destination with a draggable box the size of the source, and write the box position back to x_offset / y_offset.
  • Latents aren't images, so the widget needs something to draw: a decoded preview of each latent, or at least their pixel dimensions (latent size × 8) to draw outlines.
  • Snap to multiples of 8, since the offset is divided by 8 for latent space.
  • With resize_source on, the source fills the destination and the offset has no visible placement to edit.
