Research direction

Start by reviewing the Travis configuration mentioned in the issue and the repository's current Go dependency setup. Check how Go Modules support would interact with the stated Go 1.7.x and 1.8.x compatibility, then verify that the resulting configuration and dependency metadata work across the supported versions.

Description

I can give a PR for the same, however, as defined in the travis config, we will lose out support for go v1.7.x and v1.8.x.
