Problem
The GHES (GitHub Enterprise Server) section instructs learners to run:
gh extension install github/gh-aw --hostname ghes.example.com
This command is invalid. gh extension install does not accept a --hostname flag — verified against the current gh CLI (v2.98.0), whose only flags for gh extension install are --force and --pin. Running the command as written will fail with an unrecognized-flag error.
Current correct syntax
GHES targeting for gh extension install (and other gh subcommands that don't take an explicit hostname flag) is done by setting the GH_HOST environment variable (or by first running gh auth login --hostname <host>, which sets the default host for subsequent unscoped commands), not by passing --hostname directly to gh extension install. Reference: setup/cli — GitHub Enterprise Server support.
Suggested fix
Replace:
gh extension install github/gh-aw --hostname ghes.example.com
with something like:
export GH_HOST=ghes.example.com
gh extension install github/gh-aw
or simply rely on the host already set by the preceding gh auth login --hostname ghes.example.com call, and drop the unsupported --hostname flag from the gh extension install line.
