Piste de recherche

Start by reproducing the CPAN run on PerlOnJava using the recorded distribution and optional dependencies, then inspect t/02-tags.t, t/01-fallback-xpath.t, and the three t/embedded-*.t programs. The report points to HTML recovery, XML::XPath sort/AUTOLOAD behavior, and embedded-test execution as separate failure areas. Done means the upstream cases pass under the active PerlOnJava runtime; consider splitting these into focused follow-up issues as requested.

Description

area:cpan-port area:runtime bug

Summary

The upstream Test::HTML::Content 0.13 test suite passes under system Perl but fails under PerlOnJava. The archived run exposes three compatibility failures: HTML parsing recovery, an XML::XPath AUTOLOAD tail-call inside sort, and the test harness attempting to launch embedded tests with a Windows-only shebang.

Evidence

CPAN run 20261005-091352-31215:

  • System Perl 5.42.2: installed the exact distribution and missing prerequisites in an isolated local library; with the run-selected optional XML::XPath 1.49 and Test::Without::Module 0.23 available, all 24 test programs / 437 tests passed.
  • PerlOnJava JVM backend: 34/372 subtests failed across 10/24 test programs.
  • PerlOnJava interpreter backend: reproduced t/02-tags.t (20/97 failed) and t/01-fallback-xpath.t (2/4 failed).
  • Environment: macOS arm64, Java 24.0.2. The CPAN log reports Perl 5.044001; it does not record the exact PerlOnJava source commit.

Observed failure classes

  1. HTML parsing/recovery: t/02-tags.t fails tag and comment cases that pass under system Perl. The module first calls XML::LibXML with recover(1) and then falls back to XML::XPath plus XML::Parser; PerlOnJava reports not well-formed (invalid token) for the HTML fixtures and returns no matching nodes.
  2. XML::XPath sort/AUTOLOAD behavior: the fallback tests fail with Can't goto subroutine from a sort sub at XML::XPath::Node's goto &$AUTOLOAD tail call. This reproduces on JVM and interpreter.
  3. Embedded test launch: three t/embedded-*.t programs do not start because the PerlOnJava harness attempts to execute their D:\perl\5.8.2\bin\perl.exe shebang on macOS. System Perl's harness runs them successfully.

Expected

The PerlOnJava CPAN test run should execute these test programs with the active PerlOnJava runtime, and the XML compatibility paths should pass the upstream tag, comment, and XPath cases that pass under system Perl. Please split the work into focused follow-up issues if these failures belong to different owners.
