Summary
@boundaryml/baml is the TypeScript runtime for BAML (Basically A Made-up Language), BoundaryML's typed language for defining LLM functions. BAML functions compile to generated TS client code; calling a generated function drives BAML's own runtime, which renders the prompt, builds the HTTP request, calls the configured LLM provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, and others), streams the response, and schema-aligned-parses the result into a typed output — including tool/function-calling flows. None of this execution surface produces any Braintrust spans today, and the library is entirely absent from this repo.
What's missing
- Generated BAML function calls (the high-level API:
b.FunctionName(...)/.stream()), which perform the actual prompt render → LLM request → response parse cycle — this is the model-execution surface. - BAML's lower-level API (
b.request.FunctionName(...)/ response parsers) for callers that build the HTTP request/response handling themselves. - Tool-calling support inside BAML functions (functions that return structured tool-call objects based on an LLM response).
None of baml, boundaryml, BamlRuntime, or baml_client (case-insensitive) appear anywhere in js/src/, js/src/auto-instrumentations/configs/all.ts (the instrumentation registry), js/src/span-origin.ts (INSTRUMENTATION_NAMES), or any e2e/scenarios/* directory.
