Start by tracing the Simulation Entrypoint's report submission, status, and simulation routes, then inspect the result tables and Modal worker calls. Check how region catalog data and pre-emption are handled, and review the OpenAPI document and staging deployment checks. Done means the listed v2 routes and run behavior work, migrated reports start only one run under concurrent reads, and a small staging report is submitted and read back.

Description

The Simulation Entrypoint needs to run whole economy reports on v2 itself, without the old gateway, so the Public API's /v2/reports can submit them and read them back.

What this covers:

  • Each simulation run of a report gets its own Modal call, and each report run's comparison step another. Finished results are stored as the result tables' rows, and status reads rebuild today's result format from them.
  • A simulation run that already exists for the catalog version and year, such as current law, is reused.
  • Each run's region and dataset come from the region catalog: the entrypoint sends the dataset and the household filter, and the Modal workers apply them without policyengine.py's region registry, including the per-state filters of a US national run calculated in segments.
  • A segmented US national run cancels every segment call it started whenever it stops, and a pre-empted call starts over under the same call ID without failing its run.
  • Routes to submit a report, read it (also by its v1 report number), run it again and list its runs, and to read a simulation. The routes declare their error answers in the OpenAPI document, so the generated client can read them, and the first opening of a report migrated without a run starts one run however many readers open it at once.
  • A small economy report runs on staging after every staging deployment and is read back.

Why: these are the back end of the app's economy reports on v2. Nothing user-facing changes until the app switches to the v2 routes.
